Netezza, Composite Software introduce data virtualisation option

CBR Staff Writer Published 22 June 2010

To simplify and optimise integration of data stored across multiple Netezza appliances

Netezza, a provider of data warehouse, analytic and monitoring appliances, and Composite Software, a provider of data virtualisation offerings, has introduced Netezza Data Virtualizer to simplify, accelerate and optimise the integration of data stored across multiple Netezza appliances.

The company said that its new Data Virtualizer, powered by Composite Software, creates an integrated view of data that is physically distributed across multiple Netezza appliances and delivers query results to reporting and analytic applications while Netezza appliances continue to manage their data.

Netezza said that its customers have the option of licensing a full-use version of Composite Information Server software directly from Composite Software.

The full-use license would allow data access beyond Netezza appliances to other relational databases, to web services and XML documents, and enterprise applications from Oracle, Salesforce.com, and SAP, including SAP BW and Oracle Essbase.

Phil Francisco, vice president of product management and product marketing for Netezza, said: "Composite's deep knowledge of data virtualisation and the collaboration between our companies' engineers mean this product will provide high performance for our customers' BI applications regardless of the data's physical location within a grid of Netezza appliances."

The Netezza Data Virtualizer will be licensed and supported by Netezza and the product is planned to be generally available early in the second half of calendar year 2010.
